Chapter 6

Trecia Wilson

What have I done?

Good Lord in heaven.

What have I done?

That man baited me right into his damn trap and I fell for it like some teenage girl. Why in the hell would I follow him to the sleeping area?

Why, girl, why?

Yes, he’s sexy as hell. Rough around the edges and fine as fuck. Why in the world he thought I wouldn’t give him the time of day is beyond me. Has he looked in the mirror? I would not have given him the time of day but that was due to me. Any other woman in her right mind, would scoop him up quick. Nowadays, I shut men down left and right after that shit with Paul. I was more than done.

Now, I’m kissing them in the back rooms of a fire station? On top of that, mortifying details, we were caught as I was moaning his goddamn name. I could have absolutely melted into a big old pile of chocolate to be lapped up by dogs.

What were the odds?

I decided to take a walk with Joe, so we could discuss his mediation tactics with his mother and father who were thinking of getting a divorce after thirty years. He said after all the kids left, they turned and looked at each other and realized they didn’t really know who the other was. Therefore, they wanted time to figure all of that out. It was a common thing that happened more than is advertised but it doesn’t usually end in divorce. Though, Joe’s the oldest, it’s something that is bothering him, which was totally understandable. This also got my mind off the embarrassing moment where I was caught kissing the team leader.

If I could call Scott and get my assignment changed, God knew that I would. This complication was never welcomed and despite the past hour, I was the ultimate professional at all times. I never crossed the line and not once, had I kissed a client.

Forget being caught.

Now, I had to push all that down and do a mediation. It took everything in me, to keep my composure as Toad and Hazard talked through their issues. Despite me constantly sniffing, because I smelled like the man with his woodsy aroma, I was fine. They were able to share more about their background and how they were able to get here. Why they wanted to be firefighters and Hazard, more importantly, got to explain to the probie why he took this job so seriously. Despite, the newbie’s arrogance, I think he heard him, but time would tell. The two of them could have been doing this exercise, just to get rid of me. That’s what I suspected, anyway.

I didn’t stay around for dinner at the house, but left at four-thirty. I had to share with my mom about this new development. She was in fact, my closest friend, because she was crass enough to tell me the truth. I wasn’t calling my other romantic friends because they’d see wedding bells.
